Thi Qar Governorate

Thi Qar is a Governorate located in the heart of the southern part of Iraq and has an estimated population of 2 million. Nasiriyah city is the center and capital of the Governorate, with five other districts and a total area of (13,626) km². Both Euphrates and Tiger Rivers pass through the Governorate, which makes the area very rich with nature and agriculture. Main other economic activities are engineering and textile industries, oil and gas production, cattle breading, and fishing. In Thi Qar, there are up to 1,200 archaeological sites, including Ur. Its Marshes are well known to be among the most important natural tourist landmarks in the south of the country, with Chibayish district having the largest marshlands covering around 600 square kilometers.
